For X-Cart GOLD there are three types of accounts: provider (with the functions of both admin and provider), customer and partner.
• Customer: Your customers create customer accounts. Customer accounts are used to store your customers' personal information, billing and shipping addresses, contact and membership information, user names and passwords. Your customers are not required to sign in.
• Admin (X-Cart PRO): Administrator account is used to watch over the whole store, control and configure it, manage user accounts (including customer, partner, provider and admin accounts). Administrator account user can add products on behalf of any provider, as well as delete/modify products of any provider for anti-abuse purposes. Mainly, you use this account for working with orders, manual credit card processing, etc. The exception is the administrator account called "fulfillment staff" account (a "fulfillment staff" administrator has access only to orders and statistics).
• Provider (X-Cart PRO): Provider account is used to add, delete and modify products and other properties related to products. Every provider has his own set of products and cannot control the products of the other providers. This feature allows to create a mall where each product provider is able to sell his own products. Everything a provider does affects his own products only. The exception is the provider account called "root provider". "Root provider" is an account that can be used by the store admin to access the provider area of the store (in fact, the area in which he sees the products and settings of all the other providers as though the store were working in Single mode). Note that any modifications made by the root provider can make a mess of the other providers' settings and negatively affect the work of the store in general. So please DO NOT use the "root provider" account to modify anything in the provider area (specifically, do not click any 'Update' buttons to update products, taxes and shipping data!), use this account for supervision only.
• Provider (X-Cart GOLD): In the GOLD version of X-Cart provider is not the same thing providers are in X-Cart PRO. He combines the functions of both the store admin (has full control over the store) and provider (can sell products). This account is used to configure the store, as well as to add, delete and modify products and other properties related to products.
