Managing Product Variants

If you set any Variant type options for some product, you can look up or modify your product variants at any time: just click on Product variants in the 'Product Management' section menu when the necessary product is opened for modification.

For example, you sell T-shirts of 3 colors (Red, Blue, Brown) and 4 sizes (S, M, L, XL).

To define product variants:

  1. Search for the product (T-shirt). Click on the product name link in the 'Search results' box to open the product for modification.

  2. Click on Product options in the section menu. Set up product options for your T-shirts as is shown in the picture below:

  1. Click on Product variants in the section menu. The 'Product variants' form will be opened.

  1. Change the values in the PRICE, WEIGHT and AMOUNT columns. If necessary, edit SKU values. The AMOUNT column shows how many products within this or that variant are available for sale. If any of the variants is unavailable, set its amount to zero (it will be marked as 'Out of stock').

  1. Click on Update.

Note. If you modify any options affecting the product variants (in the 'Product options' section), the product variants are normally updated automatically. However, if you go to the 'Product variants' section after editing product options and discover that the variants have not been updated, click on the Rebuild variants button at the bottom of the 'Product variants' form. The changes will be re-applied.

After you set an individual price and amount for each of the product variants, the available quantity and product price demonstrated to the customers on the product details page in the customer zone will depend on the product variant selected in the 'Options' section. For example, if we select the variant "Color: Brown + Size: L", we'll find out that there are 77 brown T-shirts of size L in stock, and the price of one T-shirt of these color and size is $16.50. However, if we select a different product variant (for example, "Color: Brown + Size: M") the quantity and price shown to us will be different (30 items available, at $14.50).
