Defining Countries

The 'Countries Management' section allows you to define what countries will be 'active' for your store (an 'active' country is a country the residents of which can purchase products at your store). The names of the activated countries appear in the list of countries on the user registration form and are used for setting up destination zones.

By default all the countries are active. In practice, you will probably have to limit the number of countries with which you will be able to work.

To see which countries are currently activated and to change the set of activated countries, click on Countries in the Management menu.

In the 'Countries' form you can see a list of countries. The countries are divided into several regions. You can navigate between the different regions by clicking on the links in the top section of the form.

Define which of the countries should appear in the customer's registration form in the country drop down list and be used for tax and shipping calculations by selecting the check boxes in the ACTIVE column. You can use the Check all / Uncheck all links to select or unselect all the check boxes in the ACTIVE column on the current  page.

You can activate or deactivate all the countries (in all the regions) by clicking on Activate All or Deactivate All.

For each of the countries there is a two-letter code (CODE column). Country codes are used for the inner processes of the shopping cart.

HAS STATES checkboxes can be used by you to indicate whether a country is divided into states or not (the setting is used for a more detailed adjustment of the registration form). Select the check boxes in the HAS STATES column for the countries that have states.

Charset codes for active countries can be provided by you to ensure that the content of your HTML pages is displayed correctly by the browsers of your store users and the text entered into the text areas is properly saved in the database. Use the CHARSET column to specify the character set for each of the active countries.

If you change any information in the 'Countries' form, click on Update to save the changes.
