The products that you are planning to use in Product Configurator need to be classified. To classify a product means to assign it to one or more product types, attribute specifications to this product (if any specifications are defined) and define requirements regulating which other products this product can be combined with.
To classify a product:
Find the product you want to classify. Open this product for modification in the 'Product Management' section.
Click the Product
classification link in the 'Product Management' section menu. The
'Product classification' dialog box will be opened.
Keep in mind that product types need to be defined before you try to
classify your product. If you have not defined product types before you
opened this section, the 'Product classification' dialog box will display
the following message:

Click the define product types link to create the necessary product types, then return to the 'Product classification' dialog box.
To assign the product to a product type, select the necessary type from the 'Add product type' drop-down box and click on Submit.

The added product type appears in the upper section of the 'Product classification' box.

Note. Any product may be assigned to more than one product type.
If any specifications were set up for the added product type, the field below the product type name displays all the specifications within this type. To attribute a specification to the product, select the necessary specification from the list and click on Submit.

Note. To select multiple specifications, press and hold Ctrl key.
Define requirements for the product. Select the name of a product type required for this product from the drop-down list in the 'Requirements for the product' section of the dialog box. Click on Submit. The type will be added to the requirements list (you can set as many requirements for the product as you like). You can set more specific requirements by selecting a required specification within the required product type: select the necessary specification from the list below the required product type name, then click on Submit. To select multiple specifications, press and hold Ctrl key.

To delete a product type, select the check box corresponding to this type and click on Submit.
